WHY IT MATTERS
The fashion industry accounts for 2-8% of global greenhouse emissions according to the UN Environment Programme. High energy consumption, water and chemical use, the generation of textile waste and microfibre shedding into the environment as well as industrial wastewater pollution caused by textile dyeing and finishing all contribute to the detrimental effects of the textile industry. How we calculate your emissions: CO2 emissions worldwide: 37 bn t, i.e. about 2 bn t per annum (approx. 5% of total). The fashion industry generated $606 bn in 2022. With every purchase $606 bn / 2bn t, i.e. for $303 spent on fashion one tonne of CO2 is emitted. We work with Sustainable Harvest International on various reforestation projects. Sustainable Harvest International is an environmental nonprofit with over 25 years of experience partnering with smallholder farmers to adopt regenerative practices that nourish people and the planet.
